Beginner guide to how essential oils can help

Correctly used they can penetrate the cells in our bodies through absorption and or inhalation and provided us with many physical and emotional health benefits. Essential oils have many regenerative, immune-boosting, and protective qualities which can be very useful.

Here is a  brief list of benefits that can be obtained from essential oils

  • Relieve stress, tension and anxiety
  • Help destress and calm
  • Repel bugs
  • Support digestive health
  • Purify and cleanse
  • Help relieve muscle aches and pains
  • Support a healthy immune system
  • Help improve and care for the skin
  • Support hormonal changes during menstruation and menopause

How do I use essential oils correctly and safely?

The two main ways of using oils are aromatic and application.

The aromatic application works by simply smelling the aroma of the oil and can be a powerful tool. Using the olfactory system can be a very powerful way to affect memory, emotions, and hormones.

To enjoy essential oils aromatically simply

  • Inhale the scent directly from the bottle or create a nasal inhaler
  • Pop a drop of oil onto a tissue or into aromatherapy jewellery
  • Pop 2-3 drops of oil or number of drops as per the recipe in a diffuser along with the quantity of water as recommended by the manufacturer

Topical application is an easy and effective way to enjoy essential oils. However, oils must always be blended with a carrier either by a professional therapist or as per a recipe provided by a professional. Never use essential oils unless otherwise advised by a professional directly onto the skin as the majority are much too potent and can cause a reaction.

Oil blends created correctly can be very effective and useful for treating the skin, muscle aches and mental health.

Once an oil blend is created it can be used on almost all parts of the body except for the eyes, inner ears, inside the nose, orifices and mouth.

Can essential oils be consumed?

Yes, some oils can be ingested, to do so they must always be labelled by the manufacturer as the same for consumption and be diluted correctly. Essential oils are extremely concentrated and potent and should never be consumed unless you have had them diluted for you correctly by a certified professional.  Due to the many risks, this is not a method explored by Enlighten Through Nature.
