It’s no secret that every part of our modern life is directly or indirectly affected by synthetic chemicals, many of them easily absorbed into our bodies and harmful to our health. With the awareness of the health hazards, these chemicals bring more of us are opting for sustainably sourced, earth-friendly, and organic products. Studies show that over the last few years, there has been a significant shift in consumers seeking and opting to purchase products made from natural ingredients that don’t contain any harsh chemicals.
My love affair with natural ingredients started when I was just a child because you see I grew up in Sri Lanka with parents who both used natural and organic ingredients in daily life. My mother often made her own herbal remedies, and my father who was a hairstylist used natural and organic oils he custom blended for several of his clients. I learnt the value of natural ingredients and how they could make a difference in our wellness at a very early age.
Working in the beauty industry I became very aware of just how many products contained chemicals and very few active ingredients and I realised this may have been the trigger for my skin, and scalp psoriasis. So I started researching and teaching myself to make my own skincare in my kitchen. After some time I realised I had perfected certain recipes and these have been helping me care for my skin ever since. Then in 2021, I gifted an oil blend to my best friend for her son who had dry and sensitive skin, not only did it help his skin it has now become a staple part of his self-care routine.
What I love about making my own products is that I know what’s going into them and they truly are natural and chemical-free.
My personal belief is that everyone is beautiful as they are, there is no need for cosmetic surgery because we are born beautiful, and simply need the knowledge on how to use the powerful tools available from nature to care for and maintain what we already have.”
