While Autumn is a lovely time to unwind with the beautiful changing of colours in nature it can also be a season that’s hard on our minds and bodies so it’s important to make time for some self-care and take care of yourself.
You’re probably wondering what this change of seasons has to do with us feeling more tired than usual. Well here are some of the reasons why you may be feeling more exhausted lately.
As the weather starts to cool off our bodies are trying to maintain a balance and adjust to the changes in temperature. Our bodies take time to adjust to changes in temperature and to regulate their temperature which leaves us feeling more tired.
Less sunlight means shorter days which can have an effect on our energy levels. I have noticed that my mornings are certainly darker than it was a few weeks ago at 6 am and we are losing light quicker at the end of the day. Try and take advantage of the sunlight in the mornings as much as possible as this helps to wake you up, energising.
Using essential oils such as peppermint, spearmint, eucalyptus, rosemary or sweet orange in your diffuser or one to two drops on the shower floor to create aromatherapeutic steam can help energise you and help you wake up.
Seasonal allergies can also play a part, while allergies such as hay fever are associated with spring, these allergies can also be activated by the autumn winds blowing about pollen. For others, it’s allergies to mould, pet dander, and dust mites which can leave them with itchy eyes and runny noses.
Essential oils peppermint, lemon, lavender and eucalyptus can be useful in helping to bring relief to allergies. These can be used in a diffuser or made into a personal inhaler
I also recommend keeping organic local honey in the larder. Local honey can be very useful for helping with allergies to pollen and be used in a delicious lemon and honey tea throughout the year when feeling under the weather.
Here’s my personal recipe for immune-boosting tea
You will need:
- ½ Lemon juiced
- ½ inch Ginger finely sliced
- Local organic raw honey
Method:
Add two cups of water and the ginger to a small pan and simmer down to one cup of liquid. Strain the liquid into a mug. Add the lemon and honey to taste. Enjoy warm, when feeling poorly or once or twice a week to help boost the immune system.
