This week I would like to explore how holistic self-care benefits our mental health. Holistic self-care is an important part of managing stress, anxiety, and depression. It involves taking care of your physical, mental, and emotional health in order to improve your overall well-being.
This can include eating healthy foods, getting regular exercise, practicing mindfulness, getting enough sleep, engaging in creative activities, and spending time with friends and family.
Holistic self-care helps reduce stress by allowing us to take time for ourselves, engage in calming activities, and connect to our inner resources. It can also help us develop coping mechanisms and build resilience to better manage anxiety and depression.
Here are five holistic self-care practices that I find helpful for nurturing mental health,
- Meditation, I find this can help relaxation, reduce stress, anxiety, and increase clarity and focus.
- Regular exercise. Physical activity can help to boost our mood, combat depression and anxiety, and promote overall well-being.
- Eating a healthy balanced diet that includes seasonal fruit and veg, and avoiding processed foods can help to keep your mind and body healthy and combat stress.
- Spending time outdoors, taking a walk in nature or spending time outdoors can help to reduce stress, improve sleep, and increase energy.
Taking time for self-reflection can help to reflect on our thoughts, feelings and can help to create a sense of self-awareness and acceptance.
Why not try using essential oils to help maximize the benefits? There are many essential oils that can help you maximize the benefits of meditation, self-reflection and exercise.
- Lavender rose, and chamomile essential oils can be useful for helping to promote relaxation and mindfulness during meditation.
- Frankincense and sandalwood both have grounding qualities that can help with deep reflection and self-awareness.
- Peppermint and lemon can help to stay alert and energize you when exercising. I find it useful especially if I am feeling a little lazy and need a nudge.
- Ylang-ylang is often used to reduce stress and anxiety, but can also be helpful when practicing meditation or self-reflection.
- Eucalyptus is a staple in my home it can help to open up the airways and clear your mind for better concentration.
