Meet the queen of essential oils

Known as the queen of essential oils “Rose Oil” is one of the world’s most expensive essential oils, but it’s not just the price that has earned it this name.

Rose oil has been known throughout history for its many healing properties and it takes 5 tons of rose petals to obtain just 1 litre of rose essential oil. The production of Rose Essential Oil is highly complicated as the flowers must be harvested by hand before sunrise. And the distillation process must take place the very same day to ensure that the infamous fragrance of the rose is locked in.

The healing properties of rose have been renowned for centuries, fossils show that the rose originated in Central Asia around 35 million years ago. Thanks to its unique beauty and scent, it was adopted by early civilizations such as the Chinese, Egyptians and Romans, who grew the rose widely as long as 5000 years ago.

Rose oil is usually available as Rose Absolute – Rosa damascene or Rose Otto. Rose absolute is extracted from hundreds of rose petals using a solvent extraction as opposed to Rose Otto which is steam distilled.  This ultimately makes Rose Absolute a more affordable essential oil. They vary in scent but have similar therapeutic properties and effects.
