Preparing Your Skin to Welcome Summer

Spring is almost at an end and longer hours of daylight tease us with the promise of warm sunny days to look forward to. And after the long and harsh climate of the winter months, there’s no doubt your skin will be ill-prepared for the summer sun, here’s our tips for getting your skin ready for warmer days.

Check Your Products

The end of a season is a good time to look through all your skincare and makeup products, and make sure you get rid of anything that may be past its expiry date. Before you restock up on cleansers and moisturisers book in a visit with your beautician.  Your skincare therapist will be able to advise you if your skin’s needs are changing and if you should change any of your products. You may need lighter moisturiser, and other skincare to get you through warmer weather.  This process will help you avoid spending money on products that may not be right for you in the summer. If you already haven’t make sure to invest in good quality sun protection.

Avoid Breakouts

Our skin starts to produce more oil in warmer climates which can contribute to breakouts. Acne can occur at any stage of life and may continue into your 30s and 40s. If you struggle with acne or oily skin, using a deep cleansing mask once a week can help keep your pores clear.

Also make sure any instruments such as makeup brushes are washed regularly, along with changing your pillow case weekly to reduce the risk of a breakout.  Upping your diet with vitamin C-rich foods such as berries, citrus fruits and leafy greens can also help.

Remember less is more, and don’t be tempted to invest in lots of new products, if you are struggling with breakouts seek the help of your facialist.

Always Exfoliate

A weekly exfoliation for both the face and body can help the skin look its best. Not only does it get rid of dry dead skin cells from the surface, but by eliminating these cells you enable your skincare products to reach the new skin cells and hydrate them. For the face a gentle facial exfoliator will be sufficient, and for the body why not try dry body brushing to help exfoliate and aid in detoxing of the skin?  Stay Hydrated

Lastly and the most important tip to follow is to stay hydrated from the inside and the outside. Drinking  1 – 2 litres of water on a daily basis is extremely important for our organs to function at their best and for our skins to hydrate, eliminate toxins and stay clear.

You may find yourself sweating to keep your body cool and to balance this loss of bodily fluids, you should drink water often. Drinking water improves the overall elasticity of your skin, gives it a hydrated appearance and improves the skin’s overall quality. Make sure to carry a refillable bottle of water with you wherever you go.

Hydrate your skin from the outside and protect it by always following with a suitable moisturiser after you cleanse day and night.
