Summer holidays and essential oils

Summertime always makes me think of these lyrics “ In the summertime when the weather is high, you can stretch right up and touch the sky”

Many of us feel our best when the sun is out and we are looking forward to being outdoors, going away on holiday or planning a staycation. Whatever plans you have don’t forget to add essential oils to your list of items to pack.

Used safely, essential oils can be very handy to have on hand and can be very effective in tackling many travel-related problems that can arise.

Here are four of my favourite essential oils to carry on holiday

  • Lavender ( Lavandula angustifolia) is a staple in my house and a must-have in the travel kit due to its wonderful multi-tasking properties.
  • Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is especially useful if you are going to be travelling on the road for long periods and car sickness is a concern.
  • Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) is soothing and a natural anti-inflammatory.
  • Lemon (Citrus limonum) is refreshing and cleansing.
I personally prefer to pretend what I need into a small rollerball bottle and pack these to minimise space and the number of items I need to carry with me. Here are some of my favourite recipes I find handy for summer. (always patch test and label with blend and expiry dates)

For Fatigue

One 10ml roller ball bottle (steralised)
Jojoba oil
2 drop peppermint essential oil
1 drop of lemon essential oil.

Add the essential oils and top up the bottle with Jojoba, secure the bottle cap and roll between your palms to blend. This refreshing blend can be rolled on to pulse points, neck and shoulders as needed.

Sunburn
One 10ml roller ball bottle (steralised)
Jojoba oil
2 drops of Lavender essential oil
2 drops of Roman Chamomile essential oil

Apply gently to the area that is sore, Lavender is a natural healer and can be very soothing. Chamomile will help soothe the redness and reduce the heat from the burn. This blend can also be added to a tepid bath for sunburn and or heat rash

Travel Sickness

Try adding 2 drops of Lemon and 2 drops of peppermint to a tissue or cotton pad and place it in the car on the dashboard 20-30 minutes before setting off.

Or why not try our easy-to-use Travel roller ball blend specially created to help with travel-related issues and can even help with jet lag and is small enough to be permitted on board in your carry-on. . During the flight when you feel the need, inhale the aroma.

Hopefully, you won’t need any of the tips above, and your holiday will be a fun and relaxing time but I always travel with my essential oil blends, just in case!
